CalBG's new Bird and Butterfly Garden was created out of the destruction from an enormous windstorm in January 2022. Over the past year, a tangle of damaged vegetation has been transformed into a lush new Garden area dedicated to the intertwined relationships between California's native plants and the animals that live amongst them. With interpretive signage, shady sitting areas, and the flexible Outdoor Classroom space right next door, the Bird and Butterfly Garden will provide year-round opportunities for celebrating plant and animal interactions.

The celebration kicks off with our Grand Opening Weekend!

We'll have bird and butterfly experts, classes, art and craft activities, and much more available in and around the Bird and Butterfly Garden on Saturday, June 22nd between 11 AM and 4 PM. The day will culminate with an artist Q&A at 4 PM and exhibit opening at 5 PM for the new Floral Fluorescence photography exhibit in the Sage Gallery.

On Sunday, June 23rd, join us for a fabulous mariachi concert with Las Colibrí in the Forest Pavilion (performances at 5 PM and 6:30 PM), plus food, drinks, arts/crafts, and more in the Bird and Butterfly Garden between 4 PM and 8 PM.

All activities, classes, and concerts are free with Garden admission.
