April 11, 2025 is Founder’s Day at CalBG! On April 11th and throughout the weekend, join us to pay tribute to the vision of Susanna Bixby Bryant, who founded the Garden in 1927 as part of her lifelong quest to protect and conserve California native plants.

Visit: To celebrate Susanna Bixby Bryant's vision for thriving California native plants and habitats, visit CalBG on April 11th and throughout the weekend! We'll be offering visitor and member perks, including complimentary themed postcards and a brand-new special-edition member sticker. We will also have additional discounts at the Grow Native Nursery and Poppy Shop.

Donate: Gifts of any size help CalBG deliver on Susanna’s promise. Now through June 30th, 2025 patrons who support the Garden with a new recurring gift of $20 or more per month will receive a free gift of exclusive CalBG socks featuring the iconic Matilija Poppy! Visit our website for more details or to make your contribution.

CalBG’s founder is the namesake of the  Susanna Bixby Bryant Council, the Garden's legacy giving community. The Council welcomes patrons who have made arrangements in their estate plans for California Botanic Garden. These gifts ensure that the Garden's crucial work will continue long into the future, and all those with giving plans are eligible to join. For more information or to notify us of your plans, contact our Director of Advancement, Jessica Wetzel, at (909) 625-8767 ext. 222.

Advocate: Today, the Garden continues the work of Susanna Bixby Bryant and all those who have taken action to protect California’s native habitats. CalBG carries out vital conservation and research projects across the state, cares for the living collection as a public resource, and maintains the California Seed Bank as a means to safeguard native biodiversity.

You can advocate for native plant conservation by spreading the word about our work and contacting your elected officials to ask them to support conservation programs and scientific research. To keep up to date on policy issues, we recommend following The California Native Plant Society and The American Institute of Biological Sciences.

We hope to see you at the Garden on Apr 11, 2025 and throughout the weekend to celebrate the legacy of our visionary founder.
